The Newcastle Maritime Centre is located on the Newcastle Campus of Hunter Institute of TAFE NSW. With 16 campuses across Newcastle and the Hunter Valley, just north of Sydney, and 50,000 enrolments per year, TAFE NSW Hunter Institute is the largest provider of quality vocational education and training in Australia.
The Port of Newcastle provides the perfect environment for a centre of excellence in maritime and marine studies. The Newcastle Maritime Training Centre is noted for its marine engineering education and training and for its specialist facilities in marine electrical, electronics and programmable logic control. It also houses state of the art ship and boat building and composites workshops.
The Centre is a provider of deck training and is able to train students from entry to Master III Diploma level. We specialise in STCW95 entry level courses which are required by any student seeking to work in the passenger ship and super yacht sectors of the maritime industry.Our courses are of relevance to commercial and recreational mariners alike.
The Centre is also able to cater for International Students interested in studying Marine Engineering.
The Centre maintains strong links with industry and other training bodies through membership in Australasian Network of Maritime Educators and Trainers Incorporated (ANMET) and in the Association of Maritime Education and Training Institutions in the Asia-Pacific (AMETIAP). It is a founding member of the MASTER Alliance, an education, training and research association of premier maritime and seafood training organisations across the Asia Pacific
